Succeeding Where Big Pharma Has Failed

We understand why Big Pharma has been unable to develop a disease-modifying OA therapy, and our A2M-based therapeutic platform addresses their deficiencies.

Nature’s Blueprint, Perfected

Our first-generation OA therapy leverages the therapeutic power of the natural A2M protein. Now, we are “perfecting” Nature’s Design with CYT-108, our novel “super A2M” biopharmaceutical in FDA clinical trials.

For the People, By the People

Biopharma is almost exclusively capitalized and owned by Venture Capitalists, Wall Street funds, and Big Pharma. Cytonics is flipping this script and placing the power in the hands of those that need us to succeed the most: The People.

Medication capsules in blister packaging

More than 500 million people live with osteoarthritis. Today’s treatments only manage the symptoms.

Painkillers, steroid injections and joint lubricants can ease pain for a while, but none is approved to slow the disease itself. Many people eventually need a joint replacement.

ONE PROTEIN.
THREE PROGRAMS.

A2M

Alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) is a protein found naturally in your blood. It works like a Venus flytrap, trapping the enzymes that damage cartilage before they can do harm. The problem is that joints with osteoarthritis don’t have enough A2M to keep up. Everything Cytonics does starts here: our first-generation treatment, APIC™, concentrates a patient’s own A2M, and CYT-108 is an investigational, lab-made version designed to be more potent and consistent.

Status:

The Science

A natural protein that traps the enzymes that break down cartilage. It’s the foundation of everything we build.

APIC™

APIC™ (Autologous Protease Inhibitor Concentrate) was our first treatment built on A2M. A small amount of the patient’s own blood is drawn and run through our proprietary filtration process, which concentrates the A2M it contains. The concentrate is then injected into the affected joint. APIC™ is an FDA 510(k)-cleared device and has been used to treat more than 10,000 patients by physicians trained in the procedure. It also showed us the limits of working with a patient’s own blood, which led us to develop CYT-108.

CYT-108

CYT-108 is our investigational therapy for knee osteoarthritis: a lab-made, genetically engineered version of A2M. It’s designed to be 200% more potent than the natural protein and to block the main enzyme families that break down cartilage, including MMP-13 and ADAMTS-5. Because it’s manufactured rather than taken from a patient’s blood, every dose is consistent and it can be produced at scale. CYT-108 has completed a first-in-human Phase 1 study, and we’re preparing a Phase 1b/2a trial designed to look for signs of disease modification.

FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE

Most biotech companies are funded by venture capital and large pharmaceutical companies. We chose a different path. Since 2019, Cytonics has been funded largely through equity crowdfunding, by people who believe a better treatment for osteoarthritis is worth building. That independence keeps us focused on one goal: a treatment that changes the course of the disease.
